Beam basics

Image
What is a beam? Beam is a structural member which primarily withstands vertical or inclined loads by creating shear force and bending moment. What are the different types of supports? Hinged support or pinned support Roller support Fixed support What are static equilibrium equations? ∑ F x =0   ( Summation of X direction forces zero) ∑ F y =0     (Summation of Y direction forces zero) ∑ M p =0 (Moment with respect to any point is zero) What are types of loading in beam? Point load Uniformly Distributed load Uniformly varying load Concentrated moment What are types of beam? Based on the supports beams are classified into Cantilever beam Simply Supported beam Fixed beam Overhanging beam Continuous beam

Statically determinate structure

Explain with examples the statically determinate structures. If the structure can be analyzed and the reactions at the support can be determined by using the equations of static equilibrium such as ∑F x =0, ∑F y =0, ∑M p =0  then it is called as a statically determinate structure. Example: Simply supported beam, pin jointed truss or frame. Differentiate Truss and Frame? Truss is defined as number of members riveted together to carry the horizontal, vertical and inclined loads in equilibrium. Frame is defined as number of members welded together to carry the horizontal, vertical loads in equilibrium. What are the types of frames? Frames are classified into two types. a)    Perfect b)    Imperfect Imperfect frame may be classified into another two types      i.                       D ef i c i e nt f ra me    ii.   ...
